Meet the Band

Bob - Director of Music and Principal Euphoniumbob

My name is Bob, I am the Director of Music and play principal Euphonium.

I have been playing since the age of eight having been taught by my paternal grandmother in her living room.

One of my favourite pieces of music is the Brass Band version of ‘The Coldstream Colonel’, partly because it is a very good rousing piece of music and partly because it was written by my brother James, who is a Coldstream Guards bandsman.

Cheryl - First Trombone (Strad)cheryl

My name is Cheryl and I play First Trombone (Strad).

I was persuaded to take up the trombone by my son's bandmaster and within three months was playing in the Christmas Concert and haven’t looked back since. All good fun.

In a prior life I played Tenor Sax and Clarinet in a local dance band and have fond memories of the many evenings spent in various clubs, with concerts at The Point and the Southampton Guild Hall.

I will always remember a snowy evening playing a joint concert at the Guild Hall with Joe Loss and his Orchestra when there was a bomb scare and everyone was sent home. Not the usual end to an engagement!

I grew up with brass bands, my father being a band master. Both my sons play euphonium.
